The second edition of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS-II), a major international study sponsored by the Generations & Gender Program (GGP), has also officially launched in Italy as part of the FOSSR research infrastructure.

The survey collects high-quality data on family dynamics, intergenerational relations and population structure, continuing the experience of the Fertility and Family Survey (FFS) of the 1990s, sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Since 2000, the GGP has been providing harmonized, longitudinal and internationally comparable data useful for understanding individual life courses and household trends. Through the GGS survey series, the and respondents are followed through relationships, marriages, parenting, divorces, deaths, and many of the opportunities and challenges people face along the life course. The information collected, complemented by regional and national contextual indicators, is key to analyzing the impact of public policies and addressing contemporary social challenges, in full compliance with Open Science principles.

The Italian survey is coordinated by CNR-IRPPS and Bocconi University of Milan, and is now an integral part of the FOSSR infrastructure, offering services to researchers, policymakers, institutions and civil society.
