The Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) is conducted by the Generations & Gender Programme (GGP) research infrastructure.

Generations and Gender Survey – Round II (GGS-II)
This is an international study that aims to collect data on family dynamics, intergenerational relations and population structure.
Objectives
The GGS survey continues and inherits the experience of the Fertility and Family Survey (FFS) conducted in the 1990s by the Population Unit of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Since its creation (2000), GGP provides harmonised, large-scale, longitudinal and cross-national panel data on individual life courses and family dynamics. Through the GGS survey series, it follows individuals and respondents through relationships, marriages, parenting, divorces, deaths and many of the opportunities and challenges people face along the life course. The context database integrates survey data with regional and national level indicators to help better understand the role that policies and other contextual factors play in the lives of individuals and families. This information, collected according to the principles of Open Science, is ideal for formulating scientific knowledge-based responses relevant in shaping social policies to address contemporary challenges.
The second round of the GGS survey is currently underway, involving several countries in Europe and beyond.
GGS-II will follow interviewees through relationships, marriages, parenting, divorces, deaths and other life course opportunities and challenges, gathering information according to the principles of Open Science, which are ideal for formulating social policies based on scientific knowledge adapted to contemporary challenges.
