Starting from April 27, the disbursement of the incentives accrued by members of the IOPP panel of the FOSSR project will begin, for their participation in the questionnaires over the course of the year.

The initiative represents a concrete recognition of the contribution provided by panel participants, who, with their responses, support the development and quality of research activities.

IOPP (Italian Online Probability Panel) is the first online probabilistic panel at the national level, designed to represent in a rigorous way the population residing in Italy between 18 and 74 years of age and to produce high-quality data on demographic, social and economic dynamics.

Among its distinctive features is its longitudinal nature: the same individuals are interviewed over time at regular intervals, making it possible to observe not only static “photographs” of society, but also the evolution of attitudes, behaviours and living conditions. This approach allows for deeper and more robust analyses compared to traditional surveys, making it possible to study changes, causal relationships and individual trajectories.

IOPP is also conceived as an open tool, both in input and in output. On the one hand, it offers the scientific community and stakeholders the possibility to propose additional thematic modules for the questionnaires, thus expanding the scope of investigation on emerging and relevant topics. On the other hand, the collected data are made available through the FOSSR infrastructure in open format and according to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), ensuring transparency, reusability and comparability also at the international level.

The potential of the panel is particularly relevant for a wide range of users. For researchers in the social sciences, it represents a reliable and methodologically advanced source for empirical analyses, longitudinal studies and experimentations. For public decision-makers and institutions, IOPP constitutes a valuable tool to understand social phenomena in a timely way and to support evidence-based policies. At the same time, it offers citizens the possibility to contribute directly to the production of knowledge, by actively participating in research and public debate.

Within the FOSSR ecosystem, IOPP fits in as a strategic component for strengthening the capacity of the Italian system to produce high-quality empirical data and to promote Open Science practices. Together with the other services and infrastructures of the project, and in particular together with the complementary ORP panel, it contributes to building a more open, collaborative and impact-oriented research environment, in which data, tools and competences are made available to the scientific community and society as a whole.
