9 February 2024

The volume dedicated to the GARR Conference 2023 – “Interconnected Knowledge” includes the contribution “FOSSR – Fostering Open Science in Social Science Research: Building Italy’s Innovative Open Cloud Infrastructure”.

Curated by Serena Fabrizio and Emanuela Reale (CNR-IRCrES), together with Mario Sicuranza and Mario Ciampi (CNR-ICAR), the article was selected among the most relevant contributions delivered a presentation at the conference, held in Florence from 14 to 16 June 2023.

The article presents the FOSSR project and focuses on two key aspects:

Cloud Computing for the Social Sciences in Italy:
FOSSR is committed to developing a cloud computing infrastructure dedicated to social sciences in Italy. The project aims to ensure that data comply with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), promoting data openness and accessibility in social research.

Integration of Research Infrastructures:
FOSSR seeks to integrate the Italian nodes of three major European Research Infrastructures — CESSDA, SHARE, and RISIS — thereby enhancing data processing capabilities and promoting openness and collaboration through a federated infrastructure and a Virtual Research Environment (VRE).
