The survey aims to gather the opinions of the adult population in Italy on key issues of collective life, such as social and political participation, trust in institutions, the climate crisis and the impact of new technologies, with the aim of understanding the evolution of civic values and practices in contemporary society.

«This is a very important initiative for Italy, carried out with the support of an authoritative partner such as the Cattaneo Institute», says Andrea Orazio Spinello, head of the survey for CNR-IRCrES. «Together with my colleagues Emanuela Reale, Andrea Simone and Professor Salvatore Vassallo, we have chosen to focus on the concept of civicness, a term that refers to civic awareness and active citizen participation. This first survey involves a sample of over 10,000 people and investigates, among other aspects, attitudes towards polarising issues such as climate change and new technologies. Further waves of the survey are planned, with the aim of monitoring the evolution of opinions over time and expanding the analysis to specific thematic areas».

The “Osservatorio CIVES” survey is part of FOSSR’s activities aimed at developing high-quality tools, panels and datasets designed to support the Italian scientific community in accordance with the principles of Open Science. The data collected will be a fundamental resource for research and for the definition of public policies based on solid empirical evidence.
