On April 22, 2026, the workshop “Research Infrastructures for Innovation” will take place at the Sala Marconi of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in Rome. The event is conceived as a strategic opportunity to strengthen dialogue between the research community and the business sector.

Organised by the CNR in collaboration with the network of Infrastructure Managers across the six ESFRI thematic areas (Digital, Environment, Energy, Health & Food, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Social and Cultural Innovation), the workshop is designed as a platform to foster structured collaboration and co-innovation processes. Its objective is to promote medium- to long-term operational partnerships between companies and Research Infrastructures, with a focus on the joint development of advanced technologies, innovative services, and high-impact projects.

The workshop will provide a valuable networking opportunity, enabling participants to directly access expertise, technologies, and research platforms available at the national level. Representatives of the 33 Italian Research Infrastructures funded under the NextGenerationEU/PNRR programme will attend, alongside company representatives from multiple sectors, who will share experiences, use cases, and successful collaboration models.

The day will open with institutional remarks, including an address by CNR President Andrea Lenzi, and will continue with presentations of activities within thematic operational partnerships, covering key areas such as digital, environment, energy, health, and social innovation.

A roundtable discussion will follow, focusing on the role of industry in the development of Research Infrastructures, with contributions from company representatives and competence centres, as well as a session dedicated to the sustainability of national RIs.

The event will conclude with a wrap-up by Marco Sprocati, Manager of the FOSSR infrastructure, highlighting the contribution of Research Infrastructures in the field of social sciences and open science.

This initiative takes place within a broader context that increasingly recognises research as a key driver for innovation and national competitiveness, reinforcing the role of Research Infrastructures as engines of development and collaboration between the public and private sectors.
