In the digital transformation era, the rapid expansion of information, especially online textual data, requires innovative approaches for effective analysis. Text Mining has emerged as an important tool, allowing for the systematic examination of large datasets to inform policy decisions.
On October 9 (2-4 pm) an online session titled “Text Mining for Policy-Making within FOSSR” will bring together policy-makers and experts to discuss the transformative role of text mining in public policy analysis.
The session explores the outputs of the Policy Brief by Antonio Zinilli and Emanuela Varinetti from CNR-IRCrES, trying to answer the questions: can text mining help evaluate the alignment of R&D funding policies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Can text mining track trends over time in environmental and societal themes within research topics?
They will demonstrate how the FOSSR project utilizes cutting-edge tools and methods to tackle policy challenges and offer data-driven insights. The presentation will focus on how text mining (TM) can enhance public policy analysis by identifying trends, key issues, and impacts, ultimately contributing to more informed decision-making.
FOSSR aims to apply advanced techniques like machine learning and network science to uncover hidden relationships within large textual datasets, offering valuable insights into Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policy evaluation.
Expert commentary will follow, who will share their perspectives on the practical applications of text mining in policy-making. The event will emphasize the growing importance of text mining as a tool for policy evaluation, especially in addressing global goals such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
